Why Self-Publish Your Own Wordpress Blog?

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

People often ask me why a person would choose to self-publish their own blog vs. using a format such a Blogger.

There is a very good answer for this.  With a self-published blog like Wordpress, you will own all the rights to your blog and domain name and with Blogger you don’t.

If your blog is important to you then you need to own the rights to it.  I have heard many horror stories about people spending a year working on their blog only to have the free Blogger randomly cancel their account.

When they try to get it back someone has already snatched up the name and they lose the blog forever.  This can never happen if you have your own hosting account, domain name and a self-published blog of your own.

You can imagine how devastating it would be to lose all of your hard work and perhaps even your entire concept. Don’t let this happen to you!!!  It can easily be avoided.

All you need to do to protect yourself is to find a good solid and dependable web hosting company that offers free Fantastico so that you can easily create and install an unlimited number of self-published blogs and websites all by yourself.

By using Fantastico’s auto installer program you can easily create self-publish blogs in only a couple of minutes.

I highly recommend Expert Online Hosting.  They offer quality web hosting with Fantastico included with every plan and all for less than $5.00 a month.  You can create and publish an unlimited number of self-published blogs, mail list, forums, guest book etc. for this one low price.

Expert Online Hosting even offers free web hosting for the first 30 days so that you can try everything out risk free.

Also, be sure to check out my free video lessons that will teach you how to set everything up.  You can follow along and watch me do everything.  You’ll get an over-the-shoulder view as I create and publish this site, the Webit Geek blog from start to finish.  It’s really quite easy to do.

The Importance Of Choosing The Right Web Host

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Choosing a good web host is one of the most important decisions you will ever have to make when starting your next Internet adventure.

Hostgator

Your web host can either make or break you, so you need to hook up with a host you can depend on, one that works every single day with out fail and provides daily backups just in case something does happen.

Warning:  Check out the help forums if you don’t already know what I’m talking about and see all the problems people are having with stuff not working correctly. Many times it’s their faulty hosting system.

It is important to always remember that by selecting the right web host in the first place you can effectively avoid many of the common pitfalls associated with low end web hosting.

But don’t let price fool you!

You don’t have to pay a lot of money for a quality web host.

Hostgator offers several robust plans for under ten dollars a month. I have had Hostgator as my web host for 7 years now and they have provided nearly flawless service and almost instant support.  I can have an answer to a question within twenty minutes but usually not more than an hour or two 24 hours a day.

With over 40 full time support techs on hand to help you with any question you might have, you’ll find that you will never need to endlessly wait for useless support again.

Here’s Just A Small Sample Of  What You Get From A Quality Web Host Like Hostgator

  • 99.9% Up-time
  • High Speed Servers – Backed Up Daily
  • cPanel – Runs every thing from one master control panel
  • Create Unlimited Websites and Blogs
  • Unlimited Email Accounts
  • Unlimited Mailing List
  • Unlimited E-Commerce Shopping Carts
  • Audio/Video Streaming
  • Hundreds Of Free Professional Custom Templates
  • Tons Of Extras – Auto-Install – Guestbook – Forum – FAQ – etc.
  • Generous disk storage space and bandwidth allowance – even on starter plans.
  • Visit Hostgator To Learn More

Here’s A Review Of What We Have Learned So Far Watching The New Web IT Video Series “How To Make Your Webit Work”

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Webit Review,

Greetings, we started off the series with a more advanced lesson on how to add a Favicon to your website or blog that will help brand your site.  We also learned why you would want a favicon and where it would show up.

Then,

In the first video of the series we learned how to join the live RSS Feed and also discovered where to find the feed on our computer after we saved it.

Secondly, we learned how to choose a search engine friendly targeted domain name. We looked for popular search phrases on Wordtracker that indicated that people were highly motivated or looking to buy what they were searching for.

The third Webit video took us to GoDaddy to purchase the domain name.

In the forth we went to Hostgator and signed up for a web hosting account.

And finally, the fifth lesson showed us how to point the DNS Nameservers, which Hostgator emailed you, from GoDaddy to Hostgator.

We then sat back and waited 24 hrs and Viola.  Good Job!

So now the fun really begins as we start phase two of  “How to Make Your Webit Work” and enter the world of web site creation and development.

In the next few lessons we will set up a site, install a professional theme and add some really cool features.
